The February 2026 KansasCityBarbecue.com Restaurant Of The Month Is:

Arthur Bryant's Barbeque

1727 Brooklyn Ave

Kansas City, MO 64127

816-231-1123

We love Bryant's Barbeque and feel is is only fitting we select Arthur Bryant's as the Restaurant Of The Month not only because of their great barbecue, excellent customer service and historical significance, but because of the recent challengers they have had to overcome due to the flooding at Brooklyn Avenue.  We are extremely happy you guys are back and glad to be able to assist in promoting your recent opening!

Arthur Bryant’s, a legendary Kansas City institution at 18th & Brooklyn, is world-renowned for its oak-and-hickory smoked meats, unique tangy sauce, and no-frills cafeteria style. Founded in the early 1900s via Henry Perry, it gained fame under Arthur Bryant, hosting presidents and celebrities, and is credited with popularizing "burnt ends".

  • Signature Style:  Meats are typically served un-sauced, allowing customers to add their own from bottles on the table, often served on white bread.
  • Famous Sauce: Known for a distinct, slightly gritty, and acidic "tangy" sauce that divides fans but is widely recognized.
  • The "Best" Claim:  CalvinTrillin of The New Yorker famously called it "the single best restaurant in the world".
  • Notable Visitors:  Harry Truman, Jimmy Carter, Barack Obama, Steven Spielberg, and countless athletes.
  • Key Menu Items: Famous for ribs, brisket, burnt ends and fantastic brisket sandwiches.

History

  • Origins: The roots go back to Henry Perry, known as the "father of Kansas City barbecue," who startedin the early 1900s.
  • The Transfer: Charlie Bryant worked for Perry, and his brother, Arthur, joined him later, eventually taking over operations in 1946.
  • Growth: Arthur moved the restaurant to its current iconic location in 1958.

Dining Experience

  • Vibe: It is famously a "no-frills," casual, cafeteria-style spot.
